Cleaning Carpet Spots and Spills
The number one rule regarding spots and spills: Clean them immediately.
The best chance or removing the spill totally is to try and clean it when it is fresh.
Here are some tips to remember:
- Before applying the cleaning product first blot up or scrape the entire area and remove as much
of the spill as possible.
- Test the cleaning product you intend to use in an inconspicuous place first before you use them on
the spill. Some products may discolour or even damage your carpet.
- You can test the product by putting a bit of cleaner on a white hand towel and apply the towel to
the inconspicuous part of the carpet. If the colour of the carpet appears on the towel, do not use
it on the carpet.
- Never pour the product straight on your carpet.
- Never rub the spill, rubbing can cause the fiber of your carpet to fan out, it also spreads the
spill making it larger.
- Using a white bath towel will work wonders to dry the carpet.
- A white towl, you don't want the towels colour to appear on the carpet.
Deep-Cleaning Carpets
These are some indicators that your carpet needs deep-cleaning
1. Your carpet feels sticky and appears to be matted.
2. The carpet is no longer the same colour
3. You notice grimy circles around your chairs
4. Lots of small stains everyware
If you notice any of the above showing up on your carpet, it is time to deep clean your carpet. The only
method of cleaning your carpet to the backing is to agitate the fibers with a shampooer and rinse with
an steam extractor.
Here is how we do it:
- We thoroughly pre vacuum the carpet to remove all the hair, dust and loose particles.
- Before cleaning your carpet we test for colour fastness.
- We make sure to place plastic film under the legs of all remaining furniture to prevent stains.
- Spot clean and pre-treat stains while shampooing(Pre spray) the carpet.
- Use single strokes across the carpet and never apply heavy pressure on the carpet surface.
- We also use air movers to aid drying the carpet while were busy cleaning.
- Afterwards wipe down any foam or solution of furniture legs or woodwork.
- Make sure the room is well-ventilated to keep drying time down to the minimal.
Special Carpet Problems
When your carpet is burned, stained, or discoloured you don't have to put a big chair over the spot to
try and forget about it. Simply use one of the following methods to restore your carpet to its original
state.
- When you accidentally discoloured the carpet with spot treatment try touching it up with artist
acrylic paint. Only do this in small discolourations.
- To raise depressions left by heavy furniture try using steam from a steam iron. Hold the steam
iron as high as possible so the steam reaches the depressions. But DON'T let the iron touch the carpet
you might melt the carpet, especially if it is synthetic. Lift the fibers by scraping them gently
with a spoon or a coin.
- If you have loose carpet thread, snip it level with the pile. Do not try to pull it out, you might
risk unraveling part of the carpet.
